Icom IC-735

ICOM IC-735 and PS-30 Power Supply

I picked up a couple of Icom IC-735 HF transceivers and an Icom PS-30 13.6VDC 20 amp power supply on eBay.

First Icom IC-735

The first one (first picture below) had a LSB/CW BFO crystal problem, LSB and CW modes simply didn’t work. I was able to find a fully functioning replacement Main board to fix this problem.

The other problem was an intermittent rear RANT IN RCA socket on the Main board. I had to reheat the connection and add some solder to fix this problem.

The CW filter was not included. However, I found the 500hz CW filter and installed it on the Main board.

Second Icom IC-735

The second IC-735 (second picture below) had the Icom AH-2 antenna controller mounted on the right side. The actual remote tuner was not included in the purchase of this IC-735. The controller  has been removed.

The dark front panel control cover is missing and the front panel just above the right side of the digital display has a crack. Click the picture to zoom in and you can see the crack.

The various slide control slots to the left of the VFO knob also have a lot of scratches.

I found an excellent condition front panel which will be replacing the cracked and scratched up front panel.

The VFO tuning is a bit stiff, may be due to the “Brake” adjustment on the bottom middle of the front panel.

The rear Main board RANT IN RCA socket needs some reheating and solider applied to secure the socket. The boards RCA socket appears to slightly move up and down indicating the socket’s mounting solder has failed allowing the socket to have an intermittent connection. I had this same problem with my first IC-735. The Main board must be removed to fix this problem.

The other problem is the MIC Gain slide control needs cleaning as it is intermittent in Side-band transmit. All other modes and functions work. When I replace the front panel I’ll clean the MIC gain sliding pot in hopes of fixing the intermittent MIC gain pot adjustment.

It’s possible an alignment would be in order but for now I’ll fix the few issues.

Icom PS-30

I picked this PS-30 power supply up on eBay. It’s in very good condition.

I had to fix the rear DC power cable as it exited the rear of the supply (see second picture below). Note the rear panel DC cable was pulled out from the cable retainer. I loosened the DC cable retainer and pushed the wires back into the supply and secured the DC output cable then tightened the retainer. The AC power retainer inside nut was loose so I tightened it to secure the AC power cable on the rear panel.

The front panel POWER indicator lamp doesn’t light up.
