Newest Collins 32S-1 Addition

I picked this 32S-1 up on eBay. It is in excellent physical condition. It did not come with the crystals.

Front View, notice the panel has the original texture. This 32S-1 did not have any knobs other than the small VFO dial knob. I pulled the knobs from a 32S-1 parts chassis so now this transmitter has all the correct knobs.

I was able to power this transmitter up and perform normal loading into a 50 ohm dummy load. I get good drive with 200ma of plate current but the plate DIP drops down below 100ma and power output drops as the plate dips. I suspect there’s a final amplifier neutralizing issue. I’ll be looking more into this problem as this transmitter is in the repair queue.

Inside top view. Notice how clean the chassis is. This 32S-1 did not come with any crystals.

I populated the crystal sockets with crystals from a 32S-1 parts chassis so it has all the factory crystals for 80, 40, 20, 15 and 28.5Mhz to 28.7Mhz on 10 meters.

Bottom view. Notice the 4 diode BM (Balance Modulator) modification  has been done. All the old capacitors have been replaced with Orange drop caps. There doesn’t appear to be any other mods or wiring changes.

Serial number 265 indicates this 32S-1 was produced in 1958.
